(Successful) Startups = Focus

Focus on the market.

Focus on the customer.

Focus on the product.

Focus helps identify what works. Focus minimizes the chaos of figuring out what the hell to do next. Focus makes it easier to sell and market.

Lately I’ve questioned myself:

Is our product too complex?

Do customers understand what we do?

Are we focused?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never been more confident than I am today but sometimes it’s hard to see the forest through the trees.

The last startup I worked at failed primarily because a lack of focus. We tried to do too much at once and despite the amazing vision, talented team, and large market opportunity, the company collapsed.

Startups fail for several reasons but startups never succeed without focus.
